How to Plan a Freelance Project Timeline
A project timeline is easier to manage when it separates the time you need to do the work from the time needed for client review, decisions, and revisions. A simple estimate can then become a starting point for a more detailed schedule.
The basic approach
A basic planning estimate can add workdays + review days + buffer days. For example, 10 workdays + 3 review days + 2 buffer days gives 15 planning days. This is a simple calendar-day estimate, not a promise that the project will finish on a particular date.
Practical considerations
For client-facing timelines, define milestones and review windows instead of giving only one final date. Note dependencies such as missing content, approvals, access, or third-party services. If a dependency moves, record the effect on the schedule rather than silently absorbing the delay.
