Discount formula
To calculate the savings, multiply the original price by the discount percentage and divide by 100. Then subtract the savings from the original price.
Savings = original price × discount ÷ 100
Sale price = original price − savings
For example, a $50 item with a 20% discount saves $10, giving a sale price of $40 before any taxes, shipping, or additional fees.
Percentage discounts
A discount percentage describes how much of the original price is reduced. If a store advertises multiple discounts, apply each discount according to the terms of the promotion rather than assuming the percentages simply add together.
