A useful invoice identifies who is billing, who is paying, what work was delivered, how much is due, and when payment is expected. Include your business or name, contact details, client details, a unique invoice number, issue date, due date, line items, subtotal, applicable tax, total, currency, and payment instructions.
Start with a clear heading such as Invoice. Put the invoice number and dates near the top. List each service on its own line with a description, quantity or hours, rate, and amount. Show the subtotal before tax or other adjustments, then the final amount due.
State the due date plainly rather than making the client infer it from a phrase such as “Net 30.” If you accept bank transfer, card, or another method, provide the information needed to pay. Keep late-payment wording consistent with your contract and applicable rules.
For 12 hours of design work at $60 per hour, the line amount is 12 × $60 = $720. If there are multiple services, calculate each line separately and then total them.
Check the client name, invoice number, dates, arithmetic, currency, payment details, and attachment or link. Save a copy for your records and use a consistent numbering system so you can find invoices later.
